Internet & wifi

Wifi and internet is widely available in all cities, restaurants, bars and hotels. However, internet coverage is very limited once you are heading into rural and isolated areas. If you want to stay connected, you will have to purchase a Sim card for your device.
Companies providing prepaid Sim cards include Telstra, Vodafone and Optus, all offering several different data plans. Sim cards can either be purchased in stores or via the company’s websites.

Getting around

The best way to discover South Australia and the region around Adelaide is by car or camper (also known as RV’s or motorhomes). Car and camper rental companies are conveniently located at or near most airports.

Several bus lines connect the airport with Adelaide’s city centre. The public transport system features many bus routes and metro lines, which makes moving around the city and its suburbs easy and efficient.

Bus travel is a convenient and cost-effective way to discover South Australia for visitors who don’t want to drive themselves. A wide range of bus companies connect all cities with each other.

For visitors with a limited amount of time, flying within Australia is easy and affordable. The country hosts many international and domestic airports, making it convenient to get to or near your desired destination quickly.

The famous Ghan railway line between Adelaide and Darwin is among the most spectacular train journeys in the world, passing right through the center of Australia.

Money

Credit card payments can be done anyywhere in Australia, be it at restaurants, public transport or shops. ATM’s are common anywhere in case cash is needed. Australia’s currency is the Australian Dollar.

Safety

Australia in general is a safe country for visitors to travel. However, some precaution and common sense is advised. As everywhere, single woman should be cautious at night and avoid dark streets and isolated places.

When traveling to remote areas, eg. the Outback, be aware of wild animals and keep a safe distance at all times. At coastal areas, be aware of sharks and jelly-fish. Also, when encountering a snake, stay away and do not approach the animal.

Medical & healthcare

Medical facilities in Australia are good, but please be aware that evacuations in case of an emergency in a remote area can be lengthy and difficult due to the extreme distances and terrain that needs to be covered.
It is recommended to obtain a travel health insurance before traveling to Australia to cover any eventual costs.

Visas & immigration

All visitors other than New Zealand citizens need to present a passports valid for more than three months beyond the intended visiting period, as well as a valid visa (including electronic visas).
